One of the few original items that made it on this build.
I covered the original family model oil/fuel tank openings and cut new ones per Super Sports spec.
I finally made good use of the Harbor Freight spot welder I had bought on a whim a couple of years ago.
The front mudguards were in pretty poor shape it took a lot of spot welding and brazing to make them useable.
The old one was a pretty poor reproduction, so I made the lower section out of 0.060” 5052 and the domed top section out of 0.050” 5052 aluminum. It took a lot of massaging to get the dome just right using my cheap Harbor Freight imitation (Chinese) English wheel, rubber mallet and sand bag. I stretched and shrunk the connecting angle and flush riveted them together.

Because it’s a whole lot of curves, I had to machine turn it freehand, not easy! That’s the best that I could do!
Machine turning the aluminum side skirts. I made one with 0.050” 5052, it turned out OK but not good enough, so I got my buddy Ewan Cameron to make the side skirts and as usual they were just right. www.cameronracingengines.com
This old production drill had been sitting inactive for the last 20-years, I wired it up and it still worked! Some 2” Scotch-Brite Roloc pads, a couple of hours and you have a machine turned mog skirts!
Because I hate doing bodywork I gave the job to a local artisan…. As much as I hate bodywork and dust, I ended up reworking the lot! I painted (for the second time) but it's not wet sanded at this stage.
